Newsletter No. 31 1 st April 2005
2005 Season
Year 5 is beginning to take shape and I thank you all for your support in re-electing me as your chairman! We also welcome Peter Smith and Lynn Brown as new members on the committee and wish them well. The AGM certainly threw up a number of issues for them to cut their teeth on.
Play Time
For me, the most important issue is our next performance in October and preparation for that event. At the moment Alwyn is reading through some of the synopses we've received from members or found on the web. Hopefully we can select a few readings for our first meeting on 8 th April. With our currently strong membership, one of the challenges is to select something which has sufficient characters to give a good number of us parts!
Workshops
To help us along the way and by strengthening our skills we are organising some workshops. At our first meeting (prior to play readings) Annie Willens is going to take us through an Aiki session - she will explain the benefits to us on the night. We have also arranged for Anne George to give us some singing tuition on 20 th May. Other workshops will be deferred until we know what we are performing in October. Please make a note in your diary now...................
Friday 8 th April 7.30 pm Aiki Exercise by Annie Willens (Annie will be ready to start promptly at 7.30 pm for a one hour session followed by some play readings)
Village Fete
Again the Wheel of Fortune will be spinning at the Village Fete on August Bank Holiday Monday - the theme - Bond of course. So ladies can be Bond girls and gents can don their DJ's.
Christmas in Clatford
Subject to Alwyn and Suzanne being 'up for it' we want to do this again this year. Alwyn says she would welcome any Christmas/Winter readings or songs that anyone can give/copy to her.
Theatre Trip
Do we want to go to Starlight Express at the Mayflower? It is on from 11th May to 18th June. If you're interested please give Ann a ring now to let her know what dates you could go. The tickets Ann would recommend are £34.50 less a £6 group discount if we buy 10 or more tickets. We could also book a table in their restaurant to have a meal before the show but it is quite costly at £26.50 per head for a 3-course meal. You can let Ann know when you ring her if you are also interested in doing this.
June 2006
Already ideas are coming forward for June 2006 performance - we might have to set up a sub-group to progress this!
Lobsters
Now the DVD's and Video's are done there were suggestions of re-running the Video at the pub. If anyone has names of people wishing to view such an event please let me or Ann know ASAP.
Christmas Dinner
Talking of the pub - I shall book our Christmas Dinner for about the same time and same place.
Admin Matters
The committee had a long discussion on our finances. The key points are that as our finances are currently strong-ish so we can budget for Workshops (£450) and Expenditure on equipment (£750). The committee's recommendation on subs is that the £25 we've paid should cover us for 2 years subject to review at the next AGM. New members would pay a pro-rata amount.
Donations to Charity
As a group we are not averse to making donations to any local fund raising for good causes. We can also consider, if approached, nominating proceeds from a particular event to go to a particular charity. In either case if anyone wishes to put forward the name of a charity it will be given our consideration.
