A BREATH OF AIR

At our last meeting we were pleased to welcome Phil Holder who was invited to run a workshop on voice projection.   It turned out that this was only an introduction to the subject and we will need to have more workshops in the coming months.   This particular workshop Phil started on 'breathing' (very natural you would think).   Well during the evening we covered everything from yawning to squeezing the cheeks of our b*ms together and doing many eeeeeeeeeeyaaarrrrrrrr's in between.   (There, and I thought all you had to do to reach a high note was to stand on tiptoe).   Anyway we all had tremendous fun and look forward to more.

IT'S THURDAYS NOT FRIDAYS IN FUTURE

Well, Phil has agreed to be our stage director and we are keen to start thinking about doing a performance of some kind maybe around October time this year!   To achieve this we need to 'ramp up' the number of meetings we have so, initially we are going to 2 a month.   Looking at the Village Club calendar it would fit in very nicely to alternate with the Quilters who meet every 1 st and 3 rd Thursday of the month - therefore we are booking every ­ 2 nd and 4 th Thursday of the month, see dates below.

Our next meeting will remain Friday 23 rd February 2001

Future meetings are booked for: -

8 th and 22 nd March 2001

12 th and 26 th April 2001

We are planning that Phil will continue with a series of workshops covering different aspects of using our voices in combination with other essential stage skills.   As we go along we hope to draw on other skills such as writing and directing - watch this space!!

In the mean time it still remains our goal to put on a performance and whilst we now have a strategy the actual content will need to develop through the means of our workshops.

QUIZ NIGHT

A dozen of us have volunteered to represent CADS at a Village Club quiz night - don't forget to get your tickets from Margaret Scard if you put your name down.

THEATRE TRIP

We are looking at going to see Jesus Christ Superstar at the Mayflower in Southampton on Friday 20 th April 2001.   Please check your diaries so you can let Alan and Annie know at the next meeting (or phone them on 01264 324324).

We currently lack members who have the ability to play an instrument - we would particularly like to hear from anyone who plays or knows someone who could play a piano.
